Cybersecurity experts are adamant that they are managing to counter effectively, but customers should also be careful.

On the eve of our entry into the eurozone, cyberattacks against Bulgarian banks are increasing, and hackers are devising schemes to break into customers' accounts.

At a conference organized by the Association of Banks in Bulgaria, where bTV Media Group is a special media partner, cybersecurity experts are adamant that they are managing to counter effectively, but customers must also be vigilant.

At the conference, directors and cybersecurity experts at financial institutions advised people not to store bank passwords and debit and credit card details on public and work computers, not to bank via public and free WiFi networks in cafes, restaurants and hotels, and not to share information about their bank accounts with strangers over the phone and email.

"Regarding consumers, it is very important to invest in their financial literacy and digital culture so that they are prepared for modern threats in the digital environment," explained Krasimira Raicheva, Executive Director of Visa Bulgaria.

"Bulgarian banks are constantly exposed to cyberattacks that are comparable to cyberattacks on the largest IT companies. Over the past 12 months, the volume of attacks has increased, but the damage has not increased, customers have not even noticed," said Tamás Hak-Kovács, CEO of DSK Bank and member of the ABB Management Board.

"Bulgarian institutions work together with European and global ones, such as the European Cybersecurity Agency, as well as all other institutions related to security," said Valentin Mundrov, the Minister of e-Government.

Our banks are ready at any moment to be subjected to a stress test for the resilience of their cyber systems, it became clear at the conference.

"Otherwise, it is only a matter of time before a successful cyberattack occurs, which could have irreparable consequences, not only on businesses, but also on every ordinary person," said Dimitar Anestev, a journalist and moderator of a discussion on financial cybersecurity.

Everything that needs to be done for financial cybersecurity in our country has been done.

The scenario of experiencing a severe cyberattack that would paralyze banks and card operators has a very low probability, banking experts are categorical.
